About Allison
Hello and welcome!
My name is Allison Anyamele. I am an empath, an encourager, a listener, a wife, a mother, a griever, an artist, a life-long learner, and a Christian. In humility I say I was made to do this work. I’ve always been told I’m a good listener, and the never-ending complexity of the human person captivates me. When a client successfully sets a boundary, recognizes and manages thoughts and emotions in the heat of the moment, experiences being deeply known and loved, or sees a healthier habit begin to take root I rejoice at being a privileged witness to that growth.
I am particularly privileged to work with people who are grieving. My own losses have shaped how I show up for these clients. I was six years old when my three-year-old brother died, and that early, formative loss among many other losses has given me a depth of understanding for what it means to grieve, and to keep living as a griever. I bring this understanding and my advanced training as a Certified Grief Specialist into every session with bereaved clients. I am always seeking new learning about loss, grief, and post-loss growth so that I have more to offer my grieving clients.
My background of being trained in and providing play therapy to children of homeless families prepared me to work with children, especially those who have experienced significant trauma. And having lived for a time as a religious sister, I have a particular understanding of and care for men and women who are discerning the priesthood or religious life, as well as those who have left seminary or religious life and are finding their footing afterward.
Overall, I am excited to work with any person aged 3 to 99+ who is wanting more for him or herself. Whether we are working to heal from trauma or old wounds, build a stronger sense of self, rebuild or develop relationship skills, or journey through grief I want my clients to know themselves thoroughly in the present, and to know the way forward to becoming who they want to be. While my calm and laid-back demeanor creates a welcoming space, I do my utmost to ensure there is movement in every session. The last thing I want is for a client to think their time and money was squandered.
I received my license as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Colorado in 2019 and have a Master of Science in Psychology degree from the Institute for the Psychological Sciences, Arlington, VA. I completed my practicum and internship at Joshua Station in Denver, a housing community for homeless families.
Outside of the therapy room, you'll usually find me enjoying time with my children, baking something new, studying for my own self-development, reading, puttering in the garden, or sharing a glass of wine with my husband. I know a full, grounded life outside of work makes me a better, more present therapist inside of it.
